Grillz worn in classic hip-hop music videos

Top 5 Music Video Grillz

Grillz have been part of hip-hop since the 1980s, when New York jewelers like Eddie Plein started making gold caps for artists such as Flavor Flav and Big Daddy Kane. Plein later moved to Atlanta and helped push the look through the Southern rap scene. The artists below carried it to the masses and showed everybody that grillz are more than just a fashion statement.

5.) DJ Khaled – "Gold Slugs"

The 2015 single featuring Chris Brown, August Alsina and Fetty Wap is basically a love letter to gold teeth — and Khaled's own sets are some of the best around.

3.) Ludacris – "Southern Hospitality"

Double the grillz, double the fun. Shoutout to Ludacris for always holding it down, with all the different sets of gold he rocks in this 2000 classic.

2.) A$AP Rocky – "Purple Swag"

In the words of Flacko: "I dress nice for women." The 2011 breakout video put his gold on full display and helped make him one of the biggest style figures of the decade.

1.) Nelly – "Grillz"

The song that took gold teeth mainstream. Released on November 1, 2005 with Paul Wall, Ali and Gipp, "Grillz" spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 2006. Nelly didn't invent the look, but no single record did more to put it in front of the whole country.
